Extended Day

Trinity Lutheran School's Extended Day is operated under the administration of Trinity Lutheran School. Its purpose is to provide quality care in a Christian environment beyond the regular school day for students of Trinity Lutheran School.

It is located at Huntington Avenue and River Road and operates out of the Preschool Center and the school's main building. Our Extended Day Program operates under the overall supervision of Charlotte Duff. Upon employment, all staff members must submit to a Criminal Records Checks. CPR and first aid certifications for staff members are renewed regularly. The school has adequate liability insurance coverage through Utica Insurance Company. Registration

All students of Trinity Lutheran School may attend Extended Day either on a regular or drop-in basis. Parents are asked to complete an additional registration form for Extended Day. Only authorized persons, as designated on the application form, will be allowed to pick up the child. All authorized individuals must check out with the designated Extended Day staff. These procedures will ensure your child's safety and help staff maintain accurate records.

Schedule

Extended Day is available beginning at 7:00 a.m. until 7:55 a.m. for all student, from 11:45 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. for half-day students, and from 2:45 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. for all-day students during the school year. Extended Day is available only during the school year and follows the school calendar which is published annually. Students in morning Extended Day should come prepared to read or look at picture books or work on homework to ensure that their school day routinely begins in a quiet and calm manner.

Students who are picked up after 3:45 p.m. should be picked up at the Preschool Center (757-247-0814)

Fees

The Extended Day fee is $4.00 an hour. Extended Day staff maintain attendance records and charges are prorated. Parents will receive a monthly statement. This charge is paid directly to the school and is not part of the FACTS program. A late charge of $10.00 per 15 minutes will be assessed for anyone picking up a child beyond the 5:30 p.m. closing time.

Students who are withdrawn from the school or whose behavior is not consistent with the conduct code will not be allowed to continue in Extended Day. Additionally, in cases where Extended Day charges fall two months in arrears, students will not be allowed to continue in Extended Day.

Conduct and Discipline

Parents and children are requested to read and sign the conduct code and discipline procedure forms included with the application form.

Discipline Procedure
  • Child will be given a verbal warning for inappropriate behavior.
  • If the inappropriate behavior continues the child will be given "time-out". The child will understand why he/she has been given "time-out".
  • Additional "time-outs" given in the same day will warrant a written report to be read and signed by the parent.
  • If a child receives three (3) written reports, the child will be suspended from the program for a week.
  • The child and parents must meet with the Director/Head of School to determine the conditions for reinstatement into the program.

Medical

A child who cannot attend school or is sent home from school because of illness may not attend the Extended Day Program. Children who become ill while attending the program must be picked up promptly. The child must be fever free and have no other signs of illness for 24 hours before returning to school or Extended Day.

All medications must be accompanied by a written permission form from the parent which is signed and clearly states the amount of medication to be given, the time at which it is to be given, and the duration of the period during which the medication is to be authorized. Medication that is to be given for longer than a two week period must be accompanied by written authorization to medicate from the prescribing doctor. Medical authorization forms are available upon request.

Trinity Lutheran's Extended Day staff is dedicated to providing a safe and comfortable environment for your child. We welcome all visitors to our program and encourage comments and suggestions.
